Waiting For Things to Get Better

Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass...it's about learning to dance in the rain.~Vivian Greene

Does this make sense? Absolutely and it's what overweight people are often guilty of--waiting for things to change.

All the while eating the things that do not change. Yes, there are many things beyond our sphere of influence and if we sit around and wait, what can be do but eat the uncertainty?

Alternatively we can "dance in the rain." This is what I call "Options"
It would be normal to say, "I feel (stuck here) (at the effect of) (limited by) and I dislike it. I'd like to take the emotion straight and you my creative intelligence:
1. figure out a way to profit by it
2. move beyond it
3. learn from it

This is dancing in the rain.

Are You Eating Your Job?

What do you do when you discover that you're eating your job, your loss of income, and being where you don't want to be? How do you learn to change things?

First there are many others who have job problems, have lost income and are not where they want to be and they are not all over weight or using food. What I'm saying is that it's totally possible to have all these problems and be thin. To get rid of the weight which might be limiting many of your options it's important to notice that what you are eating in excess looks like food, tastes like food but is your job, not being where you want to be and lack of income.

See the question is, "how much time do you spend berating and putting yourself down because you over eat food? Now you can stop that because you are not eating food--you're eating your job and so on. You can now focus on dealing with your job and be open to opportunity. I bet there are opportunities that you don't even notice because you've been too busy putting yourself down.

The most important question is, "Does eating your problem do anything to solve them?" Of course the answer is "No" meaning that there are more effective ways of dealing with these problems.

This means that in time you will become "fed up" (pun intended) handling the same problems the same nonproductive way--eating them.

Now if you have opportunities and are somehow messing them up, i.e. not focused, forgetting and so on, then you need to focus on why you are sabotaging your opportunities. There may be a fear of success. Afraid that if you were able to move to where you want to move, have a better job, and be thin, life still might not be so great. In which case you're eating fear of the future. Make sense?

Again, fear of the future is something every human being experiences and there are more productive ways of handling it than eating the fear.

Now all this is a lot to deal with at one time and all that we are really doing is to open the unconscious mind to the creativity to solve life's problem while we switch the focus from food to dealing with the problems.

How about emotions, you might ask? Well, you get them everyday from things that do and don't work out. You even get them from reminders of things that didn't work out the day before. If you can not let it be that something did or didn't work out, you'll have an emotion and if you can't let it be that you have an emotion, you'll eat.

Ultimately you'll embrace the emotion and take it straight. If you have the cd's you also have the e-book. I'd suggest that you reread the chapters on emotions and self defeative eating and keep using the cds in rotation. In the meantime you'll be eating your problems until you're totally fed up with handling the same problems the same nonproductive ways and then you'll say to yourself, "That's it, I've stopped eating my problems, I may be uncertain as how to solve my problems, one thing I know is that I've stopped eating them."

And you do this one day at a time. This gives you the best opportunity to separate your stressors from eating and also move towards solving your problems.

Hypnosis for Weight Loss

A few posts back I wrote about hypnosis, NLP (neuro linguistic programming), and EFT (emotional freedom technique) to lose weight.

A most recent comment asked about hyposis to lose weight and asked about how long as it was possible she didn't give it enough time.

Let me say that hypnosis is the most powerful tool one can use. Yet there are many people who have misconceptions about it. There are two parts to hypnosis which I define as the "art of suggestion." First there's an educational component where the suggestions are explained to the person to be hypnotized in the full awake state. Then there's the part where the person closes his/her eyes, is relaxed, and listens to the suggestions.

This is true of all hypnosis. The difference lies in the nature of the suggestions. For instance, I could say, "As long as you avoid stepping on cracks in the sidewalk, you'll forget about food." You might think this a stupid suggestion, but if it were true that a scientific study indicated it to be true, then it would be a good suggestion as long as I explained to you how the study was done and the findings of the study. But the bottom line is that it's a stupid suggestion and it's highly unlikely that it would be accepted by anyone of normal intelligence.

For months I've occasionally written about band-wagon techniques applied to emotional eating. In other words, everyone (and mean everyone) whose article or book I've read basically uses recycled advice left over from the fad diet era and apply it to emotional eating. Well, hypnotists are the same in that they use this same old recycled advice in the form of suggestions. And yes, it works for a period of time and then an emotional stressor occurs and the person gains back the weight. As I've often said, there's nothing wrong with these suggestions that they use as long as they don't proclaim to be helping you deal with emotional eating. And yet, by the same token, unless they deal with emotional eating, they are just playing a game.

What I do is entirely different. For instance, in my book I thoroughly educate the reader in how to deal with emotions--something I haven't seen anywhere else. Now this is the first step in hypnosis--educate the conscious mind. The suggestions are then formed as to dealing specifically with habitual and emotional eating.

The last question asked was about how long it takes. For some people all they need to do is have the conscious mind educated (some of what you're doing by reading these posts) and they have instant results as it's like "all of the pieces of the puzzle come together." But I never expect nor do I suggest anyone expect results this fast.

Hypnosis is the planting of suggestions likened to the planting of seeds in a garden. You prepare the soil (educate the conscious mind) dig a hole, plant the seed and cover it (you're exposed to the suggestion) and then it's watered and nourished with fertilizer (simply the continual use of the suggestions as in self hypnosis).

It takes a period of time to germinate the seed and for it to pop through the soil. To dig it up a few days later (question the suggestion), might destroy the seedling (interrupt with success).

My book is written in such a way that what is said makes total sense, is logical, and hypnotic in its nature. Because of how the suggestions are used, once you've read it, you can never ever cheat with food again. Now that sounds preposterous, but if you've been following my posts, you are not eating food--you're eating something else which is not food. So how can you cheat with food, when you are not really eating food?

So unless you outright lie to yourself and tell yourself that you are eating food, you can never cheat again.

Back to the question about how long. Another way of answering the question is to point out the obvious. For perhaps years you've been suggesting to yourself that you've been eating excess food or have an eating problem. Follow my posts or read my book and you'll see that's an out right lie. So now for the first time in your life you begin telling yourself what you are really eating and at your own pace you will creatively discover another way of dealing with what you're really eating and forget about food. Now this might take a few days, weeks or even months. Oftentimes having someone with whom to discuss these issues can speed up this process or at least validate the journey as being the right one.

What are You Really Eating?

One blog reader wrote me to tell me that after a week there's been no change. She's been visualizing the food she eats as being the particular stressor.
Now I must ask how long does change take? Let's put this in perspective. If you're about a hundred pounds over weight and you've been telling yourself that you're overweight because you've been eating too much food for the last ten or so years, it may take a bit of time for the brain to catch up to reality.
As I shared before in previous posts, I had been depressed for about two years because of some bad business decisions that resulted in near bankruptcy. I gained about twenty pounds and even though I knew I wasn't eating food--I was eating the stressors that led to my depression it didn't make much difference--I still gained the weight. But at least I wasn't lying to myself about it being a food problem or a weight problem.

And yes, before I got through the depression, I stopped eating my stressors and dropped fifteen of the twenty pounds. The point is that rather than focus on food, I focused on dealing with my life circumstances which began with me be totally at the effect of other events to gaining a sense of mastery in my life situations.

The goal is to focus on what you're really eating. Not what it tastes like or looks like.

Advice Runs Like Water

Advice on how to reduce or control emotional eating runs like water. Click here for an interesting article and after you read it--interesting captivating photos--ask yourself what it has to do with dealing with the emotions that result in emotional eating. Sure the advice is fine as general advice but this article is about emotional eating so wouldn't you expect some direction to handle the emotions associated with emotional eating?

I wonder how the person who is eating Florida is doing? What are you eating? Remember it looks like food, tastes like food, but has nothing to do with food.

Example, this week-end my fiancee and I visited friends. I noticed that on our vacation a week ago that we were free of eating the vacation and did a great job of planning our eating. But with our friends, it was too easy to be influenced by their suggestiveness and we ate our visit for a day and a half. But rather than look at it as food, I looked at it as eating the visit. I acknowledged that I was eating the visit with our friends and that I'd like to get beyond eating the visit and forget about food. Fortunately the visit was for only two days and now it's back to life as it was.

What are you eating? Does this make sense to you? Can you see how this different approach can make a big difference?

Vacation Eating

I'm back from the sun and fun of Aruba--a much smaller island than I expected. Sometimes I get caught in the "all you can eat buffets" and eat my happiness of being on vacation--in other words, the vacation--for several pounds. Yes we did one buffet and enjoyed gluttony for one evening although I was hoping for some chocolate deserts that weren't there, but I didn't let that stop me.

Overall we planned our meals, had a great time and forgot about food in general. On the next to the last day, we found a local restaurant instead of the hotel and tourist's restaurants. Our plan was to simply eat a late lunch for the day and have a big breakfast for the last day. We both ordered fish and seafood with rice and potatoes. I watched the server pile the rice onto a plate and then the potatoes thinking that it must be a small piece of fish since there was no room left on the plate. Instead it was two plates of food for each of us--one with rice and potatoes and the other with fish and seafood.

The amount of food was overwhelming and my first thought was to be gluttonous and eat the entire two plates of food. I soon changed my mind and we took half of our entrees to our suite.

We microwaved it for a late dinner (absolutely delicious) and skipped the buffet breakfast we had planned for our last morning there.

How have you been handling your emotional eating? Can you visualize or imagine what you are actually eating? If you're not sure what I'm asking, please read my last two posts.

Although you can see and do most of the things in Aruba in two days, it is a great place to go to unwind, relax and enjoy great weather.

point what I'm writing makes sense to you as an approach, click here for more information.
