More jogging to Lose Weight

Wow, it's been almost a week since my last post and a lot has happened since my last post. I'll start with the latest. I went jogging again. If you read my last post you'd think I'm a glutton for punishment as opposed to a glutton for food. Yes the first time I went jogging last week (well it was the first time in about a year of so) it was totally exhausting, but I made it a mile. And while I still don't think exercise is necessary to lose weight or control emotional eating, it is very important for many other reasons. But you have to find the exercise that's right for you. For instance walking doesn't do it for me, but jogging on a cork track (easy on my joints) does work.

Today, the first quarter mile was much better than last week and I went on to go a mile and a half--a half mile further than last week. And what's most interesting is that all the minor pains I felt last week were gone. I probably could have made it two miles but I decided that an extra half mile was sufficient--no need to be a fanatic. I feel that if I can jog a mile and a half to two miles a week, I'll stay in great physical shape.

Now was it the jogging I did last week that improved my legs and joints or was it the glutathione I started taking about ten days ago? Glutathione as I understand it is produced naturally in our cells but it's production can diminish with age. Ironically it's the substance that keeps us young and without it we age faster. Can it help you conquer emotional eating? Maybe if much of what you eat is your physical condition. For instance, my mother is 84 yrs old and I've been identifying with her pains. I shouldn't be feeling these pains for another twenty of so years--certainly a good reason to emotionally eat. But rather than be stuck in "I have an eating problem" I am open to doing new things and old things to improve my physical condition and forget about emotional eating.

So was it the jogging or the glutathione that has made a big change in how I feel physically? I think both have made a significant contribution and I'm unwilling to stop either one to find out.

More about this exciting week in my next post. If you're looking for a source for glutathione email Elizabeth at ewilson@wisdirect.com and she'll get you a free sample supply for a few days to see for yourself. Mention my name, Richard Kuhns.

Emotions Cause Emotional Eating?

Noticed a blog that starts off by saying,

"Emotional eating is caused by stress, loneliness, frustration at home, work and society, boredom and being upset, divorce, job loss, bereavement as well as abuse during childhood, and as an adult."

Now does that make sense to you? If this is the first of my blogs that you've read, it probably makes sense, but if you've been following my blogs, you'll see the absurdity.

I mean, do these emotions cause emotional eating? Sure you may be feeling these emotions while you are emtionally eating, but do the emotions cause the eating or does our inability to deal effectively with the emotions result in over eating?

It may seem like a small difference, but in reality it's a huge difference. It's like saying that sun burns are bad for you and rather than using protective sun tan lotion or limiting exposure to the sun to avoid sun burns, you try to get rid of the sun.

Recycled Advice for Emotional Eating

If you've been following my blog posts very long you'll get a laugh from this article that appeared in U.S. News and World Report titled Need To Lose Weight? Ten Ways to Conquer Emotional Eating. Here they are.

Try blogging or signing up for Facebook or MySpace.

Squeeze bubble wrap.

Volunteer.

Be a realist instead of a perfectionist.

Build up a regular sweat.

Be your own masseuse.

Head for the mall.

Make a "bucket list."

Explore cyberspace.

Let your furry friend give you unconditional love.

What does any of this have to do with emotions? Hey, not that it's not good advice for new activities, but it only provides activities to hopefully mask emotion or a diversion. But won't the diversions create a whole new set of emotions with which to deal? I can't believe such a simplistic article got published in a national magazine. What do you think?

Who Ate My Happiness (Emotional Eating)?

Today I got the sense that I'm sabatoging myself. I'm just two or so pounds from my goal weight. I had breakfast this morning (around 9:00am) with my son who dropped by to help me with a project. Later on I went out for a while to take my mother grocery shopping and returned home around 1:30pm. I had no desire to eat anything but had a root beer float anyway. It was then that I was asking me if I'm sabatoging me.

Later in the evening we went to a country fair nearby. It's the last one of the year and I chose to have a gyro, zeppoles, some roasted nuts and a share of ice cream--chocolate of course.

Just wondering what the stupid scale will say in the morning--expecting to be about four pounds from goal instead of three.

Who Ate My Happiness? is the title of an interesting article. It's short and quick to read. One intriguing question is:
"What is your mind full of when you feel empty?"

Emotional Eating and Indigestion

Went out to dinner the other evening to Applebees and took advantage of their two for twenty dollar deal. It was good and the portions were just right. My friend and I shared a chocolate desert to complete dinner--we're both chocoholics.

The only thing I dislike about eating out is that generally it's eating later than usual and around 1:00pm I awakened with indigestion--a bad case of it. Fortunately I remembered the coral calcium water that I drink every day. I say, "remember" because for over a year--I was fifteen pounds heavier-- I suffered from indigestion on a regular basis and never thought about the coral calcium that is readily available to me. It's kinda like frantically looking for your car keys with them in your hand all the time.

Anyway, I went to the kitchen and poured the water from my bottle of coral calcium into a bowl so I could dump out a few grams of the coral into a cup. I then took a teaspoon and consumed a teaspoonful of coral. I chewed it well and swallowed it. That was the instantaneous end of my indigestion and off to sleep I went.

Note that not all coral calcium is really from coral--you can tell because real coral calcium can be chewed whereas the fake stuff is nothing but beach sand. The coral calcium is great as it also provides me all the minerals my body needs on a daily basis.
